The First Time I Felt Baby Kicking

The First Time I felt Baby Kicking

Typing the title for this post makes me giggle. ^_^ The first time I felt baby kicking was early during my 19th week of pregnancy. I wasn’t sure at first that it was baby who was kicking. I thought maybe it was just gas…

I googled around trying to look for clues to confirm that it was in fact baby’s kicks. One of my close friends, who’s a mom of a one year old, described the feeling as having butterflies in the tummy. For a lack of better words, I feel it’s similar to when I try kicking under water. Hum…how can I describe this better? To me it basically feels like a twitch inside my belly, and I always get excited when it happens! 😀

When baby kicks, it doesn’t hurt, but it certainly is a pleasant surprise. At the beginning of my 19th week, I had to place my hands gently on my tummy, close my eyes, and really concentrate on feeling baby’s movements. Now, it’s a no brainer. I can easily feel baby moving around (and oh boy does baby move a lot!). I’ve learned that my baby kicks often the most when I’m getting ready for bed, starting around 9pm.

It took a while for Timon to feel the kicks, but when he felt them for the first time, he was even more excited! He had this huge smile on his face and was so happy that nothing can ruin that moment for him. He’d have conversations with baby and everytime he feels the kicks, it’s like baby is responding to him. I truly enjoy seeing the two bonding with each other. 🙂

This pregnancy is becoming more and more real. It took me a while to realize that I was carrying a baby, like I mentioned in this post, but now I’m fully aware of baby’s existence every second.

For more than a week now I’ve started to dedicate a specific time during the day to spend with baby – have a real conversation about how the world outside the womb looks like and the things we’ll do together. It’s truly breathtaking when baby responds with a kick!

Just a little something that I wanted to share with you… 🙂

First Trimester Pregnancy Update

First Trimester Pregnancy Update :: Style in White

Time flies! I’ve already passed my first trimester, and I’m now on my second trimester. I don’t want to forget this experience. Five, 10 and even 20 years from now, I want to remember the first day I found out the news, the reactions of my family and friends, but also all the ups and downs of pregnancy. Beside blogging about this journey, I’ve also started a journal, which I’ll show to my baby once he or she grows up!

When Timon and I announced it to our family and friends, that’s when it started hitting us. We realize that our world will no longer be the same in a couple of months. It will no longer be just the two of us. We’re going to be a family of three! My first trimester was pretty much about getting used to the idea that I’m carrying a human being and that my choices of food and actions could either have a positive or negative effect on my baby.

I must say I was pretty lucky. I didn’t have morning sickness and it was such a relief for me. I remember when my mom was pregnant with my little sister, she couldn’t do much during her first trimester because she was always holding the toilet bowl. I was pretty convinced that the same would happen to me, but it didn’t turn out that way. However, I had nausea and only wanted congee, soup or noodles. I normally like eating Indian food, but during the first trimester, I couldn’t stand the smell of curry. That made me sad…

However, the biggest issue I had was sleep deprivation which caused extreme fatigue and mood swings during the day. I applaud my husband for being able to keep up with me (thanks honey!). I don’t know why, but pregnancy gives you crazy and vivid dreams. In my case, I had a lot of nightmares. They were so intense and sometimes felt so real that I’d wake up in the middle of night because of my heart’s palpitations. Thank God it was temporary!

The good news is baby didn’t reject spicy food, and I didn’t have heartburn. I could pretty much add spicy sauce in all the food, except that someone much wiser than me once told me that moderation is key, so I would sometimes skip the tempting spicy red sauce.

Speaking of moderation, another adjustment I had to make during my first trimester was to drink less coffee. When I found out I was pregnant, ten thousands questions crossed my mind and one of them was whether or not I was allowed to drink coffee. When I found out by my doctor that it was safe to have less than 200 mg of caffeine per day (about 1 medium sized cup of coffee), I was ecstatic! Before baby, every morning I had a cup of coffee (it was part of my morning ritual) and depending on how busy my day was, I would have another cup in the early afternoon (sometimes I opted for tea). But for baby’s sake, I now stick to one cup a day, opt for decaf most of the time, and skip that morning ritual once or twice a week. I’m surprised that my body can take it. It seems like it knows I have a baby, and just like me, it’s adjusting to my new lifestyle. Amazing…

The Most Exciting Part…

First Trimester Pregnancy Update :: Style in White

You know the saying “you won’t believe until you see?”. Well, the pregnancy news didn’t sink in until I saw our baby for the first time during the ultrasound! It was one of the most beautiful and heart-warming experiences in my life. I mean, I knew I was pregnant, the two pink bars and the signs confirmed it, but nothing makes it more real when you actually see your Little One with a beating heart for the first time.

I can’t wait for the next ultrasound and see baby again. Despite the extreme fatigue, this journey has so far been amazing…and a true blessing.

I love being pregnant. 🙂

The Day I Found Out I Was Pregnant

Style in White :: The Day I Found Out I Was Pregnant

Oh guys!!!!! I’ve been waiting for so long to finally write these words on the blog: I AM PREGNANT! It feels surreal. There’s so much to tell you, but where do I start? Okay, how about I start from the beginning – the day I found out I was pregnant!

It was in December, a typical day after work. I was planning on going home, but as I crossed the street, I just decided, in the middle of the road, to turn around and go to the Jean-Coutu next to my workplace to purchase a pregnancy test. I didn’t expect to be pregnant at the time, but for a while, I felt there was something off about my body, and something told me to do a pregnancy test. I purchased one that came with two sticks.

As soon as I got home, I did what I had to do, but the first test didn’t work! There was no line, not even one. So I did it the second time. The first line appeared right away. At that moment, I felt a sense of relief (Timon and I already booked our plane tickets to go to Japan, and being pregnant would’ve changed our plans) BUT I was also sad for not seeing a second line appear. Deep in my heart, I wanted to be pregnant…and that’s when the second line appeared – but it was barely visible. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was positive or negative. I thought at that moment my eyesight had worsened and that I needed a new prescription.

I left the second stick on the counter next to the sink, took my coat and walked to the Jean-Coutu next to my house. I bought another test (THIRD one, guys!). On the way back home, the whole time as I was walking to the condo; I was thinking about ten thousand things at the same time – What if I’m pregnant? How am I going to tell Timon? What am I going to cook today? How are we going to Japan? Oh wait, I can’t eat fish tonight – wait… can I if I were pregnant? Oh boy, never have I felt so confused but at the same time excited. How can these two emotions go together? *raise eyebrow*

So I took the THIRD test and held my breath the whole time. In just a few seconds THE TWO LINES APPEARED! It was so clear, so obvious that…

I fell down on my knees and started to cry – TEARS OF JOY! And I prayed to God and thanked Him for this miracle – it’s truly a miracle.

My heart is filled with so much love and joy that I can’t contain myself. I have to share this news with you, whether you know me or not. God has blessed my marriage in so many ways, and I just want to share with you how He can bless yours too!

If you’re also expecting, or you’re currently trying, I hope you’ll find some insightful information about pregnancy as I share my journey with you. If you’re already a mom, please share with me some tips. I’m sure I’ll find them useful as I prepare myself to be… a mom (Oh boy! Somebody, pinch me! I still can’t believe it! 0_0).

With love,

Oh Hello 2016!

Oh Hello 2016 - Facebook

Friends, please forgive me for being MIA! I hope you haven’t forgotten about me, because I haven’t forgotten about you!

Over the past few months, a lot has changed. I don’t even know where to start. Life got really busy, because I started a new project, which I’m so excited to reveal to you. Some of you already know about it, but most of you have no clue what I’m talking about. That’s okay. I haven’t really kept you up-to-date with my life – unless you follow me on Instagram, you may catch a few hints! 😉

2015 ended on a good note, and I’m SO looking forward to 2016! It will be a big year for Timon and I, personally and professionally. This time around, I’ve decided to be more committed to Style in White and write about the milestones, achievements and failures throughout the year, because it will be one of the most important years in my life, besides 2013 (the year Timon and I tied the knot!).

I hope you’ll come back. It will be a wonderful journey <3

My Skin Care Routine

Style in White :: My Skin Care RoutineI love skin care products – more than makeup. I believe to have a flawless makeup look, you need a glowing and healthy skin; and It starts with having good eating habits and a good skin care routine.

I’ve always been into achieving flawing skin my whole life ever since I hit puberty. In High School, I used to have really bad acne. I tried many products, and my first paycheck, I spent it all on finding the right ones for my skin. It was only much later towards the end of my teenage years that the pimples slowly started to disappear. I can name all the skin care products that I had tried but the list will be longer than my last three blog posts combined. So today I’m just going to share with you the skin care products that I’ve been using for a little over a year now.

One day while I was shopping in New York City, I went to Sephora to look for a new cleanser. I stumbled upon the fresh Soy Face Cleanser which I instantly fell in love with the moment I used it. I was pleasantly surprised that it also removed my makeup (if you put a lot of makeup, you’d still need a makeup remover). My face felt really reFRESHed and it made my skin really soft. A couple of months later, my skin looked much healthier and radiant. It’s the best cleanser I’ve used so far!

Does your cleanser leave your skin dry after you wash it off? Even if you have oily skin, it’s not good to have dry skin, especially after using a cleanser. Your skin still needs to be moisturized, and usually when your face becomes dry after cleansing it, it means that the ingredients of the cleanser are too harsh for your skin. Time to change your cleanser, my friend!

Style in White :: My Skin Care RoutineAfter using the cleanser, I tried the other fresh products. I bought myself the serum, day/night moisturizer, eye-cream, exfoliant scrub and masks. Yes, I love fresh so much that I almost bought the entire collection!

Like I said before, I’ve been using fresh for a little over a year now, and I haven’t ONCE been disappointed with their products! I love using them and I enjoy doing my skin care routine every morning and night. Best of all, the products are made with natural ingredients like plants and flowers!

Okay okay, so now comes the most important part, because if you’re still reading this blog post, it means that you REALLY want to know my skin care routine (:P). So here comes the fun part! 🙂

Style in White :: My Skin Care RoutineI cleanse my face and use my Clarisonic twice a week. I then apply the Seaberry Moisturizing Face Oil before applying the Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream (smells really good!). The reason why I like to apply a really small quantity of the face oil is because it helps retain the moisture – that way when I apply my foundation, my skin doesn’t fee dry and dead skin don’t appear later throughout the day.

Once I’ve applied the moisturizer, I use the Lotus Eye Gel. I know some people don’t mind using their face moisturizer under their eyes, and I did that before, but what happened to me over time is that it creates little white bumps that look almost like whiteheads. These bumps are just an accumulation of excess oil which is sometimes caused by the formula of the moisturizer (because the moisturizer is too rich and heavy for the area under the eyes).

Last but not least, I apply my sunscreen (fresh doesn’t sell sunscreens, but I’ve been using Lancôme for many years now and I still love it!) and finish it off with a bit of concealer, foundation and mascara (sometimes eyeliner).

Style in White :: My Skin Care RoutineIf I don’t have much makeup on me, I simply use the fresh Soy Face Cleanser to cleanse my face, but in days when I put a lot of makeup, I first use a makeup remover and then the cleanser.

It was just about a year ago that I started to use a night moisturizer right after I cleanse my face. What I like about fresh is that the Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream can also be used at night which is AMAZING!

…and then I go to bed.

Style in White :: My Skin Care RoutineI exfoliate my face with fresh Sugar Face Polish. I LOVE IT! Again, just like the cleanser, it doesn’t leave my skin dry afterwards.

When I want some me time, I like to put on a face mask. I alternate between the Rose Face Mask and the Black Tea Face Mask. You know what’s great about these masks? Not only do they feel good but you can also leave them on your face OVERNIGHT! To me, that’s great! Sometimes when I put on a face mask, I get so relaxed that I tend to just fall asleep, but with some masks, when left on the face for too long, my skin starts getting itchy – not a good thing.

So that’s my skin care routine. Do you have one? If so, please share your routine in the comments below! I’d love to know! 🙂

Dear Diary :: Summertime Busyness

Do you have a season song? Like a song that you play over and over again during a time period? I’m that kind of person. When I like a song, I play it until I know the lyrics by heart. Sometimes I just can’t get enough and play a song on repeat until it gets stuck in somebody else’s head – most of the time the victim is Timon.

Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Rey has been on repeat in my head for the past few weeks. My summer isn’t sad though. Instead, it’s more like “Summertime Busyness”. It’s been filled with events that celebrate happiness, and I’ve been quite busy lately attending them.

Remember that time when I wrote about having several weddings this summer? Two weekends ago, Timon and I attended the third wedding of the year (two more to go) and it was beautiful!

The bride was perfect from head to toe! I personally think a woman is at her prettiest when she’s in love, getting married to the love of her life, and when she’s expecting a child. But that friend of mine wasn’t just pretty, she really was perfect – her hair, physique, posture… Just everything. Continue reading →

Dear Diary :: Summer Fun

Dear Diary,

The month of July started off on the right foot. To celebrate the first day of the month, Timon and I were invited to a friend’s house for BBQ. Despite the rain, we were still able to use that fancy BBQ that my friend received from her fiancé for her birthday. All we needed was an umbrella.

The day could be summed up in four words: amazing food, great company!
