I remember telling myself years ago, after watching The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, that one day I’ll go to Greece to visit the beautiful island of Santorini. It was a dream, and it became a reality! I feel so blessed to have had the chance to discover this magical place!
After visiting the best beaches in Crete, we took a speed boat and went to Santorini. We stayed at Oia (pronounced i-ya), where we find the famous blue-roof churches.
We booked a few nights at the Alexander’s Boutique Hotel, located right on the main street. This hotel was quite special. Our room was basically a cave! I really liked the experience. The staff were really nice, and the service impeccable. Every morning our breakfast was freshly prepared and served on the terrace where we had a view of the Aegean Sea. We also had a jacuzzi! It was awesome!
Everything about Santorini was picture perfect. I love the white houses with the blue-roof churches. The landscape has inspired me to decorate our condo’s guest room in white and blue. Blue has become my favorite color ever since (it used to be yellow), because it reminds me of our honeymoon in Greece and the sea. I’ve always loved beaches, and my dream is to own a cottage in front of a beach, or a lake, because in Quebec our beaches are not that pretty.
There’re many fun tavernas and bars, as well as interesting souvenir shops in Santorini. We also saw many donkeys! Unfortunately, I didn’t get to ride on one like in the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. The husband didn’t want me to. Bouh!
We pampered ourselves and tried the Doctor Fish Spa! We needed it, especially me. I walked in sandals the entire trip. No wonder my ugly and chubby feet need a bit of love…from the fishes! Haha! It was a great experience. You should try it one day!
Did you know that Santorini is also famous for watching the sunset? It seems like it, because every night, a lot of people would try to find a spot to have the perfect view.
On the second day of our stay, we rented an ATV to see the entire Island. We went to Fira, the capital of Santorini, to shop and to eat. We also spent an entire day on a semi-private boat. They brought us next to an inactive volcano where we could have a “hot spring bath”.
We ended our trip in Santorini by watching the sunset from our boat. It was romantic. The perfect way to end our honeymoon in Greece and our stay in the beautiful island of Santorini.
I hope my honeymoon in Greece series has inspired you to visit this country. If one day you have the chance, which island would you like to visit the most?
